Cool Vintage Piece of the Day

One of the things people love about our shop is our unique inventory of vintage finds. This is one of the most unique pieces we have in the studio right now.
Vintage Candle Snuffer Scissors
It seems that brass is more common, but this is a wonderful pair in silverplate. They were (or still are) used both to extinquish the flame and to trim the wick of a candle prior to lighting.
When they sit flat, the scissors rest on the short posts off the table. I'm sure so that the soot doesn't dirty the surface. There is a mark on this pair, making it even a little more rare. We'll be listing these on our Etsy site VintageScout soon, so be sure to check there for more information.

I-kat, You-kat, we all scream for ikat

One of the trends that the interiors markets are predicting this season is a lean toward ethnic-inspired accessories and prints. How ironic to call that a trend when those are some of the oldest fabrics in the world. However, the Scouts love ikat fabric and it is a TRUE classic. The word “ikat” stems from the Malaysian word meaning “to bind” and the designs are created by resist-dying the threads (usually the weft, or crosswise threads) before they are woven.

This is our fashionable "Scooby" chair (in studio now and available)- a moderately sized wing back, perfect in most any room. We could see it in an office, corner of a master bedroom, or obviously a fabulous living room. Do notice the oversized nailhead accent at the bottom- amazing!

Madeline Weinrib produces some of the most beautiful ikats in the world.
These are some super stunning ones from Kravet.

Come browse through our large collection of fabric books for the perfect print for your home. What a great way to update for spring.

Simply Charming

After months of hearing about what a great fit it would be with our store from friends Molly Cross, owner of bobbi jordan, and Christine Price, owner of LaDeDa~ le salon, we are "CHARMED" to finally have jewelry in the studio from talented designer, Tracy Janess. Tracy and her sister have a company which they call "A Charmed Life". The two of them rework vintage baubles in to delightful bracelets and necklaces. Tracy told us the inspiration came from her charm bracelet which she's had since childhood, and her passion for vintage jewelry. We think the two blend together perfectly!
This bracelet features a cameo locket. The bracelet on this piece is actually vintage also. The next one has two darling miniature portrait charms.

Select pieces are available in the studio now with more to come. Prices range from $25 to $75. You won't want to miss out on owning your own unique piece of jewelry. They make great gifts for girlfriends or tell your significant other to stop by for your Valentine's Day present.

We're "snow" inspired

The snow is still falling on and off here in Dayton- we've got about 5" here at the Studio. The white fluffy stuff is not only making us dream of cozying up by the fire, but creating all white rooms. This one features a fireplace that started out a dark lava rock and was plastered over. The vintage surfboard is a fun touch. (photo from Velvet&Linen)
I love how the heavy antique sideboard is lightened up with a coat of white paint. And is anything more classic than a Saarinen table? (photo from LivingEtc)
A neutral palette can be so warm! (photo from atitbit.com)
Slipcovers are a great way to do a white room since they can easily be cleaned.
