Sometimes we see life in black and white

Lately it seems, everything we fall in love with has been black and white. Our zebra stenciled hide rug;
our Jonathan Adler Saville lamps,
this amazing indoor/outdoor fabric,
this cute pillow from Supon

The list could go on and on... What we've found is black and white is the perfect backdrop (read: neutral) for anything you want to add or quickly change. We love adding a pop of color or playing with texture. You've noticed we move stuff around frequently in the studio; having these pieces makes it easy (well... the heavy lifting...) Translate this into your own home. Stop in the studio for some lack of color today. Oh, and when you're ready for the adornments; we've got those, too.

The Rantings of a Shop Girl on Saturday morning

Well, it's hot in the store and not just because the temperature outside. The studio is blazin' since we've added the upstairs space. It's quiet here this morning, so a good time to reflect and brainstorm. It was also a good day for shop dog, Merry, to come to work today. It's funny that each of the Ohio Scouts have dogs with girls' names. There's Laura and Lucy, too. Anyway, back to reflection... One of the biggest factors in what the Scouts select for the studio is to bring ideas and merchandise to Dayton that you can't find around here. We often have people in the shop who remark, "I don't feel like I'm in Ohio when I'm in your store." Although we all love our hometown, we take it as a compliment. So that's been our motivation behind the new lines we've brought in. In addition to new items, we also "scout" for the unique, one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. The Scouts are known for their seamless blending of "old world style with modern flair". So, stop in the studio or browse our website http://www.vintagescout.com/ and see what we mean. See ya soon!

Celebrate Trend Setters!

The Studio echoes with the music of Michael Jackson today. The Scouts mourn the passing of this revolutionary icon. Being Style Mavens, Jean, Dana, Robin & Debbie, appreciate Michael's ability to think outside the box. Style is style, folks, and Michael Jackson had it. Take today to celebrate trend setters! RIP Michael.

Our New Mascot

Meet Fido, our new Foo Dog. He ceremoniously greets you as you walk in the shop. Actually, Fido is a vintage piece; hard carved solid limestone! At 27" tall, he's sure to ward off any bad chi. He would be a great addition to your garden or foyer. $295

Support Your Locally Owned Retailers

The Scouts encourage you to check out the 3/50 project www.350project.net; a unique grassroots movement to motivate the public to support local independently owned businesses. It's not that we don't shop at Target- we do; but just like there's things you need that can't be found at the locals, there's also the items the independents carry that you just can't find at the big chain. We want you to be aware of the impact that the small independent retailers have on your local economy. The Scouts also want you to know that your patronage is greatly appreciated; we know you have a choice, and we thank you for supporting Vintage Scout.

A Leather Chair for Fathers' Day

The Scouts are fortunate to be expanding their studio space and one of the new lines we've added is upholstered leather furniture. The pieces are custom made for us in North Carolina by a family owned business and the quality and comfort are amazing! We have a huge choice of leathers and finishes as well as frames to fit every home. This club chair would make a great Fathers' Day gift!

What we're burning in the studio

The Scouts think Delirium & Co.'s Silver Period fragrances are perfect for summer. Currently, we are enamored by the Scarlet Grapefruit candle. It's a crisp, sensual merger of ruby red grapefruit, red currants, apple, mandarin, jasmine and amber. This candle is beautifully packaged and has a burn time of 55 hours. $38

This week we love...

The Scouts often reminisce about time spent in Paris, and this set of six prints of le Palais-Royale brings back great memories. Each one is tastefully framed and measures 19"x24". Hang a pair or all six. They would be perfect in any room of the house!

Best Wedding Gift Ever!

Wedding Season is upon us, and we think Jonathan Adler's Muse Monumental would make the most sublime gift the happy couple could receive. Packaged so beautifully, it only needs a card. 5 wicks and a crisp floral scent make this a candle they'll burn everyday and think of the fabulous friend that gave it to them. And it's the gift that keeps on giving... once the wax is gone, the beautiful porcelain vase is the perfect container for all the flowers dear hubby will be bringing home. In stock now at the studio.
